Background on Plant
TPI Polene Power of cement maker TPI Polene is sponsor of a 150 MW coal pant in Tapkwang, Kaeng Khoi district.[1] The company received environment and health impact assessment (EHIA) approval in 2017.[2][3]
In November 2018, a group of local people said the project's EHIA study was carried out without gathering sufficient feedback and other information. They have have threatened to take a legal action against the Energy Regulatory Commission if it grants the company a license for the plant. The group also says TPI Polene has already started building the plant despite not having the license, which could make it liable for certain penalties.[4]
In January 2019 TPI Polene said the plant had begun commercial operation.[5]
