TXE Industrial Gasification Facility
{{#badges: CoalSwarm}} In December of 2007, Texas Energy LLC (TXE), a subsidiary of Eastman Chemical Co., submitted an air permit application to build the TXE Industrial Gasification Facility in Beaumont, TX. The plant, now canceled, would have primarily used petroleum coke to produce syngas.[1]
In July 2008, Texas Energy withdrew its air permit application to make major modifications.[2]
In February 2009, the US Department of Energy announced that it will prepare an environmental impact statement (EIS) for proposed plant. The site contains floodplains and wetlands, and would affect approximately 52 acres of wetlands and potentially some floodplains.[3]
On December 9, 2009, Eastman Chemical announced that it was canceling plans for the plant. The company cited several factors in the cancellation, including increasing construction costs and uncertainty concerning the future of U.S. energy and environmental policy.[4]
