Yeşilovacık power station

Background on Plant
In May 2012, Tabiat Enerji (a subsidiary of the Çolakoğlu Group) applied to build a 1,254-MW coal-fired power plant near the resort town of Yeşilovacık in southern Turkey.[2][3][4] Several other large coal-fired power plant projects also exist in the area, including the Akdeniz Enerji Power Plant and the Mersin Eren (METES) power station.
In February 2013, a public hearing for the project in Yeşilovacık descended into chaos, with members of the gendarmerie and police attacking protesters who were trying to push their way into the building and shut down the meeting (see video at right). Company representatives and local officials reportedly hid in the bathroom. Several protesters were injured, including one who was hospitalized with a broken leg. The hearing was prevented from being held.[5][6]
Another public hearing was held in July 2013. Again local residents voiced their opposition to the project.[7]
The plant was licensed in 2015,[8] but as of 2018 has yet to begin construction.
As of December 2019 the plant is no longer listed on the EPDK lists and the EIA is no longer available online. The project appears to be cancelled.
