Taichung Port

Coal
The 5,500-megawatt Taichung power station owned by Taipower is located at the port. The plant has four coal conveyor belts. Two belts are from the coal harbor terminal. Coal is imported for the power station.[2]
The eight older units at Taichung have a total estimated coal requirement of around 12 million tonnes of bituminous and 2.5 million tonnes of sub-bituminous coal a year. Taipower has since added two more units of 550 MW each. The utility has been buying much of its long-term contract requirement from Australia, with the rest supplied from the US, South Africa, Indonesia and other sources. The remaining 30% of the coal is purchased on the spot market. Indonesia is the prime source of sub-bituminous coal, which is purchased on a yearly contract.[3]
