Coal
In 2011 the port handled two million tonnes of coal.[1]
Proposed coal plant
In 2014 Taipower said it plans for a thermal power plant at Taipei Port, the Taipei Port power station. Taipower plans to reclaim 250 hectares of land in the harbor area to house the power station, as well as causeways for transport and for storage of coal stocks. The power station would consist of six supercritical coal-fired power plant units with an installed capacity of 6000 MW. Construction is estimated at 13 to 14 years, and would create an additional 35 million tons of carbon emissions per year once the six units are running.[2]
