Beginning in early 2005, several organizations geared up to create conditions that would encourage a hardening of US policy towards Iran with the policy consequences ranging from placing crippling sanctions against its economy all the way to conducting an attack on Iran's nuclear industry. (NB: military analysts indicate that an attack on the nuclear sites could well involve a major conflagration.) No matter how flimsy the evidence, if it would prove useful to smear Iran, it was enough to be pushed.
