Thar Block IV power station is a proposed 660-megawatt (MW) coal plant in Sindh province, Pakistan.
The sponsors K-Electric and Harbin Electric International are also proposing the Bin Qasim power station.

Background
In February 2014, Pakistan's K-Electric and China's Harbin Electric International (HEI) signed a Cooperation MOU for a 660 MW coal plant under a BOT (build own transfer) agreement. The plant will be operated and maintained by HEI for a limited time, and will be then transferred to K-Electric. Further details were not available.[1][2]
In June 2014 it was reported that Harbin Electric planned to establish a 660MW coal-based power plant at Thar Block IV, a coal field in the Thar Desert of Sindh province, Pakistan. The cost of the proposed power project is estimated at US$2.5 billion.[3] In 2015 it was reported that Thar Block IV had been awarded to Harbin Electric.[4]
There have been no further reports on this project, and it appears to be abandoned.
Ownership
In October 2016 Abraaj Group agreed to sell its stake in K-Electric, Pakistan’s largest power utility, for US$1.77 billion to Shanghai Electric Power (SEP) of China. SEP will acquire a 66.4 per cent stake in K-Electric.[5][6]
