{{#badges:Climate change | stub}} Author Thomas Bethell is on the board of advisors of the Independent Institute[1]. His book The Politically Incorrect Guide to Science (2005, Regnery Publishing[2])

"promoted intelligent design and AIDS denialism, but scoffed at any dangers from global warming, radiation, dioxins, DDT, loss of biodiversity, etc. It lauded climate contrarians Fred Singer and fictioneer Michael Crichton."[3]

Bethell's wife Donna Bethell, who has recommended her husband's book, is a board member of Singer's Science and Environmental Policy Project[4], and "has been, for at least 7 years, a member of the Board of Sandia National Laboratories, a major US national science/engineering resource."[3]

Biography

Bethell was born and raised in England. He was educated at Downside School and Trinity College, Oxford. A resident of the District of Columbia, he has lived in Virginia, Louisiana, and California. He is married to Donna R. Fitzpatrick of Washington, D.C.[5][6][7] He is a senior editor of The American Spectator and member of the Hoover Institution. He was formerly Washington editor of Harper's, and an editor of the Washington Monthly.[8]

Bethell is a member of the Group for the Scientific Reappraisal of the HIV-AIDS Hypothesis[9] which denies that HIV causes AIDS. His The Politically Incorrect Guide to Science promotes skepticism of the existence of man-made global warming, AIDS denialism, and skepticism of evolution (which Bethell denies is "real science"[10]), promoting intelligent design instead.[11]

Climate expertise unclear

It is unclear what expertise Mr. Bethell has developed that leaves him more qualified to assess climate science than 97% of actively publishing climate scientists.
