Thomas Greene
Thomas Greene, "a 30-year veteran of the United States Foreign Service, served for several years in Iran as well as in a number of other countries including Afghanistan and Pakistan. He is a native of Hanover, New Hampshire, and a graduate of Swarthmore College. He received his doctorate from Princeton University in political science.
"Mr. Greene was involved in refugee work for much of his career and served as Counselor for Refugee Affairs in Islamabad, Pakistan from 1982 to 1986. Earlier, while serving in our Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, Mr. Greene was the co-author of the English language translation of the 1964 Constitution of Afghanistan. In 1990 Mr. Greene served as Deputy Special Envoy to the Afghan Resistance. In addition to the Persian language, he is conversant in French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
"Since 1992 Mr. Greene has worked as a consultant for the Refugee Policy Group and other organizations. He wrote the chapter on the Caucasus and co-authored the chapter on Tajikistan in The Forsaken People, case studies of the internally displaced, published by the Brookings Institution (1998). He presented a paper on Central Asia and the Millennium at the International Congress of Asian and North African studies in Montreal in 2000." [1]
He serves on the advisory board for the National Iranian American Council.
