Background

Tianjin LNG Terminal (Sinopec) is an LNG terminal under development in Tianjin, China.[1]

Tianjin LNG Terminal (Sinopec) started construction in 2013 and was originally set to be running by 2016. In July 2015, it was announced by China’s National Audit Office that the project was delayed until 2017. The terminal will supply LNG to Beijing, Tianjin, and the Hebei region.[2] The 3 mtpa facility is awaiting final regulatory approvals for completion.[3]

The terminal began commercial operations in February 2018, and completed construction of all of its storage tanks in September 2018.[4]

Proposed Expansion

In September 2018 Sinopec announced that Phase II of the project had been approved by the Tianjin Development and Reform Commission. Phase II would construct five LNG storage tanks in the second phase, each with a capacity of 220,000 cubic meters.[5] Construction of the expansion began in March 2019.[6]
