Background
Kruse attended Iowa State University from 1984 until 1989, graduating with a BS and a BA in Economics and Political Science. "In 1989 and 1986 Mr. Kruse held positions with U.S. Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) as a patronage appointee in the U.S. Senate Post Office and as legislative intern to the Senator's current chief of staff."[2] After college, he became a field representative for Congressman Tom Tauke (R-IA) from 1989 until 1991. In 1991, he went to work for Frontier Communications as the Government and Industry Relations Manager until 1998. During that time, he also attended the University of Saint Thomas - School of Business, graduating in 1998 with a Masters in International Management. In 1996, he took a leave of absence from Frontier Communications to serve as a Delegate Manager at the 1996 Republican National Convention.[3]
After completing his masters, Kruse became Vice President for the lobbying and consulting firm DCI Group, LLC, working there from 1998 until 2004. Kruse ultimately rose to become DCI's European Director where he was associated with DCI's European edition of Tech Central Station. He left in 2004, to found and run Thought Leadership Management, LLC, "a public affairs consulting firm, which specializes in developing and managing third party allies via a range of earned media activities to advance clients' public policy and marketing agendas."[4] It also provides corporate intelligence.[5] Additionally, from 2006 until 2008, he was also the Director of Regional Field Teams for the American Legislative Exchange Council.
In 2008-2009, Kruse became a Policy Fellow at the University of Minnesota's Hubert Humphrey School of Public Affairs.[6] In 2010, Kruse taught "American Government and Politics" and "World Politics" classes at the University of Minnesota. In April 2011, he took a position as a Senior Counselor for Ainsley Shea, a marketing and PR company. In his bio, he lists one of his biggest accomplishment as managing "the public awareness campaign for the US Coast Guard's Deepwater fleet replacement program."[7]
Kruse is also one of the co-founders of the Uhuru Policy Group, a think tank "which is focused on free market solutions for the African nations."[8]
