Location
The map below shows the location of the plant, in Tongguanshan District, Tongling Prefecture, Anhui Province.
Background on Plant
The two units of Tongling Wanneng-4, commissioned in 1989-1990, were retired in 2007. The two coal-fired units of Tongling Wanneng-5, totaling 600 MW, were brought online between 1998 and 1999. The plant is owned by WEnergy.[1][2][3]
Unit 1 of Tongling Wanneng-5 was retired in 2018.[4]
Description of Expansion
The plant's owners recently built Tongling Wanneng-6 Unit 1, an additional coal-fired unit, with a capacity of 1,000 MW. The new unit was completed in 2011.[5]
A second 1,000-MW unit was proposed,[6] and received environmental clearance in 2015.[7]
It was under construction in 2015,[8] and began operating in March 2017.[9]
