He was previously Chairman of Workspace Group plc., Chief Executive of Allied Domecq, a Non-Executive Director of HSBC Bank plc, Welsh Water plc and Aston Villa plc, and Chairman of NAAFI. He is a Trustee of Welsh National Opera and a Trustee of the Services Sound and Vision Corporation."
