Tony Harrison is the Managing Director of Corporate Communications Tasmania, the largest PR company in Tasmania and an affiliate of Porter Novelli.

Background

A biographical note describes Harrison as a "a former journalist, press secretary to two Tasmanian Premiers and senior public affairs executive in the public and private sectors, Tony not only manages the company but provides high level corporate advice and expertise in government relations to clients."[1]

According to his Porter Novelli biographical note he worked as a senior public relations executive with the Australian Tourist Commission.[2]

He was a member of the Tasmanian Consumer Affairs Council from 1994 to 1998 and was Chairman of the Tasmanian Government's Consumer Affairs Advisory Committee in 1998.[3]

Harrison has been a member of the board of Cricket Australia since 2002 and has been a Director of the Tasmanian Cricket Association for more than a decade.[3] An archived Cricket Australia biographical note from 2006 stated that Harrison was "also Chief Executive of Porter Novelli (Tasmania) and Kay & Kay Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations." [4]

"He is a Director of Echo Projects Pty Ltd, PENPOW Pty Ltd, North West Foundation Pty Ltd and and Tarraleah Holdings Pty Ltd.", his current Cricket Australia biographical note states.[3] An earlier version of the biographical note from May 2006 stated that he was a "Board member of the Menzies Research Institute."[4]

He is also a member of the State Council of the Tasmanian branch of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.[5]

He has been National President of the Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA), the peak national body for the PR profession. He is a member of PRIA's College of Fellows, the select body responsible for oversight of the Public Relations Institute of Australia's Code of Ethics.

"In 2003 he was awarded the prestigious national President’s award by the Public Relations Institute of Australia for his contribution to the profession at a national level," his biographical note states.[6][7]

Tasmanian 2006 Election Ads

Harrison was listed as the authorising agent for an advertising campaign aimed as ensuring the Tasmanian Greens political party would not hold the balance of power after the March 18, 2006 state election. The ads, which were published on behalf of Tasmanians for a Better Future. Harrison told the Mercury that funding for the ads had come from "a group of concerned Tasmanian businesses and community people".
