Background on Mine

The 1.0 million ton-per-annum Barjora coal mine was previously owned by West Bengal Mineral Development and Trading Corporation (WBMDTC), owned by the State of West Bengal. The mine was operated by a private company, Trans Damodar Coal Mining.[2][3]

In February 2015, Durgapur Projects Limited, a different state-owned company of the State of West Bengal, won a state auction to operate the Trans Damodar Barjora mine.[4]
