The Two Seas Project is a $3 billion civil engineering project to construct an artificial island in the shape of a seahorse off the north coast of Bahrain. Gulf Financial House is the lead promoter of the project which is intended to cash in on the luxury real estate boom in the Persian Gulf while investing more of the torrent of oil revenues in the region. The project was inspired by similar artificial island building projects in Dubai and the United Arab Emirates. Ironically the project threatens coral reefs which are home to actual sea horses. Whether the elevation of the island will be high enough to survive rising ocean levels caused by global warming is unclear. Bahrain is anticipated to be the first Gulf state to be drained of its oil. The United States Navy's Fifth Fleet is stationed in Bahrain.
