Background

The plant is operated by VS Lignite Power, a subsidiary of KSK Energy Ventures. KSK states on its website that it has "entered into a power delivery agreement with various bulk consumers in state of Rajasthan" "and is expected to cater to the power requirements of industrial consumers." The company is expected to mine 1 million tonnes per year from the captive mine. The power station, which was commissioned March 31, 2010, was built under an Engineering, Procurement and Construction contract with the Chinese company SEPCO.
