"Vyacheslav Nikonov holds a doctoral degree in history and is a respected Russian political analyst.
"Born June 5, 1956, in Moscow, Nikonov is the grandson of Vyacheslav Molotov, the renowned Soviet politician and diplomat. In 1973, Vyacheslav Nikonov began his studies at the Faculty of History of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, specializing in modern and contemporary history. Following the graduation, he began working for the Department of Modern and Contemporary History at LMSU. In 1989, he became the youngest Doctor of History in the USSR. It was the same year when he was transferred to the Central Committee of the USSR Communist Party to work as an instructor, and later as the head of the Ideology Department.
"In 1991, he served as assistant to the Chief of Staff of the President of the USSR. Following August 1991, he was an assistant to the head of the State Security Committee (KGB) of the USSR.
"Starting in 1992, Nikonov served as an advisor to the International Foundation for Economic and Social Reform (Reforma Foundation). He also taught at the California Institute of Technology in the United States.
"In April 1993, together with a group of political consultants (G. Satarov, A. Migranyan and A. Salmin), he founded and headed the Polity Foundation. In May 1993, he became one of the initiators of Club–93.
"In 1993, he was elected as a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation within the federal list of the PRES Party (Party of Russia unity and accord). He served as the chairman of the Subcommittee for International Security and Arms Control. In January 1995, he became Deputy Chairman of the State Duma committee charged with investigating the emergence of the crisis situation in the Republic of Chechnya.
"In 1996, he became the Deputy Chairman of President Yeltsin’s re-election campaign.
"In 1997-2001, Vyacheslav Nikonov was a member of the Presidential Political Advisory Council, the Presidential Human Rights Committee and the Presidential Expert Council on Political Extremism.
"Since 1993 until today, he has been active as a President of the Polity Foundation.
"Since 2003 until today, he has been active as a President of the Unity for Russia Foundation.
"From 2006 to 2009, he was a member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation and headed that organization’s committee on international cooperation and public diplomacy.
"Vyacheslav Nikonov served as Executive Director of the Russkiy Mir Foundation from 2007 to 2012
"In 2007, he was appointed a Chairman of the Russian National Committee of the Faculty of State Management at the LOmonosov State University.
"In 2012, he becomes both Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Russkiy Mir Foundation and the National Committee on BRICS Research.
"Nikonov is a member of the Public Council of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian federation, Public Council of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs and Academic Council of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also serves as an Editor-in-Chief of the Russia’s strategy journal, Deputy chairman of the Board of Editors of the Russia in global affairs journals, President of the Club-93, member of the Presidium of the Committee for foreign and defense policy, member of the board of Directors of the Russian social and political center.
"Nikonov is author of over 1000 works and articles, he has also written books: “From Eisenhower to Nixon. History of the Republican Party in the USA”, “Republicans: from Nixon to Reagan”, “Iran-Contras Affair”, “Russian-American Relations: How to Achieve More”, “Wind of Change: Russia in the 90s”, “Molotov: The Youth”, “Collapse of Russia. 1917”, and “The Russian Matrix”."[1] [1]
