Background on Plant

WISCO Qingshan power station is a two-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 440 MW. The power station was completed in 1996-97, and is owned by Wuhan Iron & Steel. It powers Wuhan Iron & Steel's Qingshan District steel plant.[1]

Expansion

Two additional units of 350 MW each have been proposed for the power station.[2]

Suspension

In March 2016 China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) released guidelines for regulating coal power development to crack down on the severe and growing coal power overcapacity crisis. 13 provinces were told to suspend new approvals through 2017, including Hubei. For details, see China's 2016 Restrictions on Development of Coal-Fired Power Capacity.
