Location
The map below shows the location of the West Bokaro coal mines, surrounding Barughutu town, Ramgarh district, Jharkhand state. All mines visible in the map below are apparently part of West Bokaro, extending from 23.72-23.81 N and from 85.45-85.63 E.
Background on Mine
Several mines on the West Bokaro coalfield are owned by Tata Steel (a private company that is a subsidiary of the Tata Group), and several are owned by Central Coalfields Limited (a subsidiary of state-owned Coal India).[1][2][3] Tata's mines at West Bokaro produce 6 million tons per annum (MTPA); the extent of CCL's production at the mine is unclear.
The West Bokaro mines include mines in the Kuju Area (Sarubera, Ara, Kuiu, Topa, Pindra, Pundi, and Karma) and in the Hazaribagh Area (Khedla, Jharkhand, Laiyo, Parej, Tapin, and Ghato).
Tata's operations at West Bokaro were expanded by 2.3 MTPA in 2005.[4]
