Background on Plant
Xiaolongtan power station is a two-unit coal-fired power station totaling 600 MW and commissioned in 2006 to 2008. The plant is majority-owned by China Guodian (now National Energy Investment Group). Six 100 MW units were commissioned in 1985-1992 and retired in 2008, after the two new units came online.[1]
Proposed expansion
Two additional coal-fired units at the power station, units 9-10 of 600 MW each, were proposed. In September 2016 the units were among 15 projects cancelled by China's National Energy Administration (NEA).[2]
Ownership
On August 28, 2017, China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) announced that China Guodian Corporation and Shenhua Group will be jointly restructured. Shenhua Group will become China National Energy Investment Group and will absorb China Guodian Corporation. It will be the largest power company in the world by installed capacity, as well as the world's largest coal producer.[3][4] The merger was completed on November 28, 2017.[5]
