This 1952 advertisement from Lorillard Tobacco Company touts the "health benefits" of KENT's new "MICRONITE FILTER," which was made of asbestos. Lorillard used asbestos in its filters for four years in the 1950s. Many people who smoked cigarettes with asbestos filters came down with mesothelioma, the hallmark cancer resulting from asbestos exposure. Simultaneous exposures to asbestos and tobacco smoke have a synergistic effect that amplifies the health dangers of exposure to these substances.[1]
