Background on Plant

The three coal-fired generating units at Yuzhno-Sakhalinskaya-1 power station have a capacity of 240 MW. The plant is owned by RusHydro. The plant’s three coal-fired units were brought online between 1976 and 1984.[1][2]

Units 4 and 5 were converted from coal to gas in 2012-13.[3] RusHydro plans to convert the remaining coal-fired units to gas by 2022.[4]
