The map below shows Zelwa, the approximate location where the plant would be built, about 70 km from the Polish border.
Project details
Project sponsors for the proposed 1,000 MW power station are Polish investment firm Kulczyk Holding and Belarusian power company Bielenergo. In 2010 Kulczyk Holding said the firm was planning the direct current inset on the Belarusian side, to link the two country's grids; the plant was expected to begin operation in 2014 and export energy to Poland.[1]
In 2011, Jan Kucyk said that he was suspending the project because the "current climate surrounding Belarus" made financing too difficult.
As of June 2014 the power station is not mentioned on Kulczyk Holding's website and appears to have been abandoned.
