Port of Dandong is situated in China's Liaoning Province and on the west bank of the Yalujiang River estuary. Dandong has 10 productive berths, out of which 4 are deepwater berths for vessels of 10,000 dwt. The annual throughout capacity is 2.25 million tons.
In 2008, the port could handle up to 32.5 million tons of cargo. It completed 43.5 million tons in 2009. The number rose to 55.05 million tons in 2010. The annual average growth surpassed 30% and ranked among the top 20 places.
According to the port's website, Dandong has achieved notable results in developing negotiation and cooperation with the steel, coal, cereal and the other large enterprises. It has become strategic partner with the Benxi Steel Group Corporation to jointly establish the transit shipment base for the iron ore, the coal and the steels, and explore the coking coal, the iron ore and the other resources in Russia and Mongolia.[1]
