Although the construction of Tabas power station has apparently been abandoned,[1] Iran mines 675 thousand tons of coal a year[2] and uses it to produce steel.[1] Iran Human Rights Monitor has accused the country's coal mining industry of threatening miners' lives with deficient safety standards and outdated safety equipment.[3]
