Location
The map below shows the project's site, near Sarımazı village, Ceyhan district, Adana province. The site lies adjacent to the border with Hatay province.
Background
In September 2014, Çalışkan Enerji applied for environmental permits to build a two-unit coal-fired power plant with a total planned capacity of 1,320 MW in Adana Province. The project would cost about 2 billion lira, or about $760 million. The company hopes to begin construction in 2017, and complete the plant in 2021.[1][2] Public hearings on the Çalışkan Ceyhan EIA were held in January 2015.[3]
As of June 2019, with no further progress in over four years, the project appears to be cancelled.
Protests
In January 2015, local residents held a forum to organize protests against the proposed plant.[4]
