Biographical Information
"Alexander Lebedev is the Chairman of the National Reserve Corporation (NRK) – a prominent Russian financial and industrial group with interests in hi-tech manufacturing and socially-oriented business rather than the simple exploitation of the country's natural resources.
"In 2003 Alexander Lebedev was elected as a deputy in the Russian State Duma. In parliament he became one of the most active legislators, who pioneered bills on open information, the responsibility of authorities, accessible housing and development of the Russian aviation industry.
"In 2008 Alexander Lebedev left parliament. He is currently the president of National Investment Council, the International Institute of Global Development and the Centre of Problems of Integration of the Institute of economy of the Russian Academy of Science. As a shareholder of the “Novaya Gazeta” newspaper, he supports the paper which is a symbol of the independent journalism in Russia.
"Alexander Lebedev is the president of the Charitable Reserve Foundation (CRF) and a founder of the international Raisa Gorbachev Foundation. Funds allocated by Lebedev have financed the construction of Russia’s largest children's oncological clinic in Saint Petersburg, have provided treatment of children in the Russian oncological scientific centre in Moscow, have purchased medical equipment and provide training of Russian doctors in the leading world clinics." His son is Evgeny Lebedev.
