Biographical Information

"Ann Henderson has been an active campaigner for gender and social justice in the labour movement, in local, national and international women’s groups, for over thirty years. Ann was employed as a researcher and parliamentary assistant in the Scottish Parliament for eight years, working with MSPs in Parliamentary inquiries, Cross Party Groups and supporting committee legislative scrutiny. She also worked on a part time basis as a Scottish Parliamentary Officer for the RMT (Rail Maritime and Transport Workers Union).

"Since the Scottish Parliament opened in 1999, Ann has been committed to promoting public engagement with the parliament, encouraging a wide range of groups and individuals to get involved; following through on the Parliament’s founding principles of accessibility, equality and accountability. She was involved in the establishment of the Scottish Women’s Budget Group bringing a gender analysis to the Scottish Parliament’s scrutiny of the Scottish government’s spending plans. Ann was appointed as an Assistant Secretary at the STUC (Scottish Trades Union Congress) late 2007, and continues to promote parliamentary and government engagement in this role...

"Ann has vast experience in working with women in groups, as individuals, in the community and in local and national government across Scotland. This included a three year post in women’s development project in the Castlemilk community in Glasgow, and a contribution to the ESRC Gender and Constitutional Change Project based at EdinburghUniversity. Ann has also served on the UNIFEM (United Nations Development Fund for Women) UK Board 2002 – 05, and is currently convenor of the UNIFEM Group in Edinburgh. "
