Background

The power station was proposed by Jain Energy, which signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the government of Chhattisgarh in 2008 for the establishment of a 1200 MW coal-fired plant in Jangir-Champa and Korba districts.

Subsequently, Jain Energy stated that the project will be implemented over 48 months and spread over 1000 acres, with Development Consultants Pvt. Ltd. the technical consultants to the project. According to Jain's website in March 2014, "considerable progress including on land acquisition, completion of Public Hearings, Forest clearence [sic], Water allotment has already been achieved."

However, as of August 2014, specific information on the project is no longer provided on the Jain Group website, and it appears to have been abandoned.
