Barbara Dreyer was the co-founder, President, and CEO of the online K-12 education company, Connections Academy until she passed away in 2014.[1]

Ties to the American Legislative Exchange Council

Connections Academy is a member of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) and sits on its Education Task Force.

About ALEC
ALEC is a corporate bill mill. It is not just a lobby or a front group; it is much more powerful than that. Through ALEC, corporations hand state legislators their wishlists to benefit their bottom line. Corporations fund almost all of ALEC's operations. They pay for a seat on ALEC task forces where corporate lobbyists and special interest reps vote with elected officials to approve “model” bills. Background

Previously, Dreyer served as COO and co-founder of Ntercept Communications, an online market research company that also operated a site for political issues and was one of the top 500 web sites during 2000. According to her official biography, "Dreyer has held senior management positions in start-ups that were sold to Motorola, MailWell, Union Carbide and Agency.com. She was a Partner with New Enterprise Associates, one of the nation's premier venture capital firms."[2]
