The pipeline runs from the Beharra Springs gas field in Western Australia to the Parmelia Pipeline in Western Australia.

Background

The Beharra Springs Pipeline is operated and owned by Origin Energy.

Accident

In January 2017 whistleblower Sally McDow, former senior manager of compliance at Origin, revealed a December 2013 "incident" that occurred at the Beharra Springs Redback South Well #1 near Perth in 2013. According to McDow, a meeting of senior managers were told the incident was the worst the chief executive of Origin's Upstream Division had seen in his 35 years in the oil and gas industry. The explosion could have caused multiple deaths and was the result of about 13 systemic issues which had been ignored by management in audits and reports over about 10 years.
