Background

Chennai LNG Terminal is an LNG terminal under development in Tamil Nadu, India.

Construction of Chennai LNG Terminal is expected to be completed in 2018 and includes two 180,000 cubic meter LNG storage tanks, importing facilities, and a regasification terminal. The terminal's 5 mtpa receiving capacity is expected to increase to 10-15 mpta in the future. On commissioning, it will supply up to 20 million cubic feet of natural gas daily to industrial consumers and 18 million cubic meters of natural gas daily to southern Indian states. The gas will be used for power plants, fertilizer units, industrial, domestic, and transportation sectors.

The terminal entered commercial operation in March 2019.
