Chipepo power station is a proposed 1,000-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power station in Zambia.

Background

In 2008 Reuters reported that India's ERA Group planned a 1,000 to 1,200 thermal MW power project in Zambia, with investment of $1.8 billion. The firm also said it would start prospecting for coal in southern Zambia, likely near the Maamba Collieries, which would be used to operate the power station. Officials said the project would start once land was identified in Zambia.

The power station was originally planned to be 500 MW and commissioned by the end of 2011.

However there has been no news of the project since the announcement, and it appears to be abandoned.
