Biographical Information

Chris Batty, Assistant Divisional Manager, Ofsted

"Chris qualified in social work in 1978 and worked in council social work departments for the next 22 years. His career has primarily been within children’s social work and has involved practitioner, managerial and policy roles. He gained an MBA in 1993 and in 1996 was appointed Assistant Director of Children’s Services for the new unitary council of Leicester City and was responsible for setting up and managing children’s social work services for Leicester until 2000 when he joined the Social Services Inspectorate. He was the council’s lead officer for Looked after Children and Youth Offending as well as vice chair of the ACPC. "In April 2007 Chris transferred to Ofsted and was responsible for the delivery of APA and JARs within the Midlands, working closely with education colleagues, and led on a range of social care and safeguarding matters for Ofsted. He has been involved in the development of the new safeguarding inspection frameworks and on 1 September 2009 took up the post of Managing Inspector with a national lead for Safeguarding and LAC inspections[1]
