Biographical Information

Chris Church is a co-founder of Community Environment Associates. "He is an advisor to the UK Community Development Foundation (CDF)... He is an Associate of Capacity Global, and of Resources for Change (a consultancy specialising in local sustainability, evaluation and the rural environment).

"Chris is a skilled and popular trainer. He works extensively for Talk Action (for current courses see here) and for COIN (the Climate Outreach information Network). He has also recently trained staff for the Environment Agency and various local councils, and has designed and led training for 150 Advisers to the Local Food programme of the Big Lottery Fund.

"He specialises in work at the local and community level, and in work linking social development, poverty and environmental issues. He works in the UK and Europe (see below), and lives in Hackney in east London. For six years (2003-2009) he chaired the Board of London 21, a cross-London network of 2500 organisations working on sustainable development. He remains a Trustee of London 21 and is now also a director of Mapping for Change, a new Social Enterprise set up by London 21 to do online community and green mapping...

"Chris worked for Friends of the Earth UK from 1984-1990 before starting to work freelance. He has since worked for many NGOs and other organisations including the National Trust, Charter 88, UNED UK, the Community Architecture Group, British Trust for Conservation Volunteers, Groundwork, Global Action Plan, ENCAMS, the Environment Council, Surfers Against Sewage, English Nature, the local government Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) and the EU TACIS programme. He has also been extensively employed by the UK Government Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) on issues relating to sustainable development."
