Background

The bulk coal terminal supplies cement factories in Cirebon, Cibinong and Bogor. Coal unloading capacity is 20 tonnes per hour.[1] In 2014 Stevedoring volume at Cirebon Port reached 4.37 million tonnes, and coal handling activities reached 3.08 million tonnes.

In November 2015 local residents voted against plans for expansion of coal-handling activities at the port, citing negative health and environmental effects from coal dust.[2]

The Cirebon City Government (Pemkot) has said they will halt coal handling service in Cirebon Port following numerous complaints from surrounding residents over dust pollution.[3]
