Background

The pipeline is owned and operated by Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL).[1] In March 2012 Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed hope that the pipeline would eventually help carry gas from the proposed Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India Gas Pipeline.[2]
