Biographical Information
"Joan McVittie began teaching in Manchester in 1974. Following a career gap where she raised two daughters, both of whom are now teaching, she returned to teaching in London. She gained her first headship in 2000 at Leytonstone School, London. She has been the Head of Woodside High School in Haringey since 2006. Woodside High was named by the Prime Minister in August 2011 as one of the schools which was 'spearheading a social fight back'. In February 2011, the school was rated 'outstanding' by Ofsted.
"Joan was a School Improvement Partner for two local authorities: Waltham Forest and Camden; and is also a member of the Governing Council for The National College. In July 2011, Woodside High was designated as a National Support School and Joan as a National Leader in Education. "[1]
