Biographical Information
"I trained as a doctor and GP, but also as a homoeopathic and later an osteopathic practitioner and musculoskeletal physician (www.professordavidpeters.com/). From 1990 until 2005 I directed the complementary therapies development programme at Marylebone Health Centre (MHC). This Central London NHS primary care unit was set up in 1986 to develop new approaches to inner city healthcare (1). I am one of the founding faculty of the University of Westminster’s School of Integrated Health where I am Professor of Integrated Healthcare and its Clinical Director. I chaired the Advisory Group of the Prince of Wales’ Foundation for Integrated Health (2) and was a trustee of the Foundation until 2006.
"I have co-authored or edited five books about integrated healthcare: The Encyclopaedia of Complementary Medicine, The Complete Guide to integrated Medicine, Understanding the Placebo Response in Complementary Medicine and Integrating Complementary Therapies: a practical workbook for Primary Care. The fifth book New Medicine was published by Dorling Kindersey in August 2005 (and in the USA in March 2007). I am Editor in Chief of this comprehensive attempt by a group of international authorities to explore the potential for conventional, psychological and complementary approaches to work together appropriately. I am Chair of the British Holistic Medical Association – an open association of mainstream and complementary practitioners concerned to support the development of holistic healthcare (BHMA.org) - and Editor of its Journal of Holistic Healthcare.
