The 2005 Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission (BRAC Commission) was established by Congress "to ensure the integrity of the base closure and realignment process." [1]


Commissioners

On March 4, 2005, President George W. Bush nominated Anthony J. Principi, California, to be a Member of the Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission (New Position). On April 1, 2005, Bush announced the recess appointment of Principi, as well as the recess appointments of eight individuals to serve as members of the Commission: [2][3][4]

Names Withdrawn

The nomination of Lieutenant General Claude M. Kicklighter, USA (Ret.), Georgia, was withdrawn April 4, 2005. He had served as Assistant Secretary for Policy and Planning at the Department of Veterans Affairs; served in the U.S. Army for nearly 36 years. No reason was given by the White House.
