Background
Dhamra LNG Terminal is a proposed LNG terminal in Odisha, India.[2]
In May 2015, Gas Authority of India Limited (Gail) and Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Adani Group to reserve regasification capacity in the Terminal. The deal came a few weeks after GAIL dropped plans for a floating LNG terminal in nearby Paradip.[3] As of August 2017, ownership shares are: Adani Group (50%), IndianOil (39%), and GAIL (11%).[4]
Construction of Dhamra LNG Terminal began in 2017 with a planned receiving capacity of 5 mtpa. The terminal’s natural gas will be supplied to local industries, motor vehicles, and various city gas distribution networks in eastern India.[5]
In September 2018 an agreement under which IndianOil and GAIL would assume a combined 50% ownership of the project expired, leaving Adani as the sole owner.[6]
