Controversy
A March 2, 2008 article in the Columbia Missourian indicates Edee Baggett and National Ballot Access have been retained to gather signatures for Ward Connerly's anti-affirmative action ballot initiative in Missouri. The article states, "Right now, for example, contractors with National Ballot Access are gathering signatures for three Missouri initiatives — a pair restricting the use of eminent domain to take private property, and another limiting affirmative action programs."[Italicized emphasis added.][3]
Ms. Baggett was interviewed for a June 26, 2006 article in the Omaha (Nebraska) World-Herald that discussed paid petition circulators circumventing the law while collecting signatures for ballot initiatives. World-Herald reporters observed petition circulators breaking the law and questioned Ms. Baggett, who was on scene, about the violations. Ms. Baggett defended the circulators and told the reporters that her circulators had "received training about the state's law" and that they "knew they were suppose to" follow the law.[4]
Testimony in Lawsuit
In 2007, Baggett testified in the Yes on Term Limits v. Savage lawsuit.[5] The lawsuit prompted change in favor of the citizens' initiative process. The United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit overturned residency requirements for petitioners. The 10th Circuit also denied a re-hearing of the case. The case was never appealed to the United States Supreme Court.[6][7][8][9]
