Elimatta coal mine

Elimatta is a proposed thermal coal surface mine, the site is located in Southern Queensland, approximately 45 kilometres (km) southwest of Taroom.[1]

Coal would be transported by rail to Wiggins Island Coal Terminal at Gladstone via rail.[2]

Location

The mine would be located approximately 45 kilometres southwest of Taroom and 380 km northwest of Brisbane, in Southern Queensland, Australia.[1] The access would be on Perretts road which would, in the main be relocated to allow mining.[2]

Coal Mine Background

Northern Energy Corporation were developing proposals for this site it which was bought out by New Hope Coal in 2011.[3] The Elimatta project has progressed through the Land Court process and is now negotiating landholder and council compensation agreements prior to the granting of the mining leases.[1] The lifetime of the proposal is for 40 years.[1]
