Fernando Pia is an Argentinian agricultural engineer who co-founded the Centro de Investigación y Enseñanza de Agricultura Sostenible (CIESA) with Mark Jordan after learning biointensive agriculture from a workshop held by Ecology Action in San Diego, CA in 1993.
- "An agricultural extensionist from Argentina, Fernando had been looking for ways to encourage small-scale sustainable agriculture in his area of Patagonia. When he returned home he started CIESA and spent the next 3 years researching the growing of crops using Biointensive. Since then, Fernando has given regular trainings in Argentina and Chile and has also trained people in Peru and Bolivia.".[1]
Pia trained agronomists at the Unidad Académica Campesina - Carmen Pampa in Bolivia in the biointensive method.[2]
