Genesee 3 is a coal-fired power station owned and operated by TransAlta near Genesee, Alberta in Canada. The coal-fired power plant is the first facility in Canada to use supercritical boiler technology. Located 50 kilometers southwest of Edmonton, adjacent to Capital Power's Genesee generating station, the 450-megawatt G3 power plant is a joint venture between TransAlta and Capital Power. Capital Power operates the merchant plant, and both parties independently dispatch and market their share of the electrical output through the Alberta Power Pool.[1]
