Georgia Center for Opportunity

The Georgia Center for Opportunity (GCO) is a member of the State Policy Network, a web of right-wing state "think tanks.". It describes itself as "an independent, non-partisan think tank dedicated to increasing opportunity and improving the quality of life for all Georgians." It was founded in 1990 as the Georgia Family Education and Research Council, but changed its name in March 2013.

Ties to the Bradley Foundation

Through 2016 the Georgia Center for Opportunity received $1,525,000 from the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation.

Bradley detailed the most recent grants in internal documents examined by the Center for Media and Democracy (CMD). Below is a description of the grant prepared by CMD. The quoted text was written by Bradley staff.

2015-2016 (Barder Fund): $1.5 million over 3 years to create a multi pronged Health Families Initiative “to measurably increase the number of healthy relationships, strong marriages, and stable families in metro Atlanta.”

Bradley Files

In 2017, the Center for Media and Democracy (CMD), publishers of SourceWatch, launched a series of articles on the Milwaukee-based Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation, exposing the inner-workings of one of America's largest right-wing foundations. 56,000 previously undisclosed documents laid bare the Bradley Foundation's highly politicized agenda. CMD detailed Bradley's efforts to map and measure right wing infrastructure nationwide, including by dismantling and defunding unions to impact state elections; bankrolling discredited spin doctor Richard Berman and his many front groups; and more. Ties to the Kochs

In addition to receiving funding from the State Policy Network and the Donors Capital Fund, both with ties to the Kochs, the Georgia Center for Opportunity is a partner organization in the Charles Koch Institute's Liberty@Work program.
