Background
Guanabara Bay LNG Terminal is a floating LNG terminal in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The terminal started operation in 2009 on the vessel Golar Winter.[2]
In 2014, Excelerate Energy was contracted to build a Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) at the terminal, called the Experience. Today, the Experience supplies 50% of Brazil’s LNG regasification capacity.[3]
In June 2016, Petrobras put the Guanabara Bay LNG terminal up for sale. The company's Pecém LNG import terminal in Ceará is also for sale, along with the thermoelectric power plants associated with these terminals.[4]
