Background
The 665-kilometer-long oil pipeline links Algerian oilfields at Haoud El Hamra with the Mediterranean port of Skikda, Algeria.[1] The construction of the pipeline was planned to be finished in 2008.[2] In 2007, the New Zealand company ABB won a contract with Sonatrach to supply pumping stations and automation systems to the NZ-1 pipeline. The contract was reported to be worth $215 million and is part of Sonatrach's goal of increasing Algeria's oil transport capacity by 18 million tons per year.[3]
