Hugh Cullman was the President of Philip Morris, Inc. from 1957-67, and CEO from 1967-78, and Chairman of Executive Committee of the Board 1978. Howard "Hugh" Cullman was the brother of Joseph F. Cullman, Jr.

Biography

Hugh Cullman was Assistant Treasurer for Philip Morris, Inc. in 1959. He became Treasurer in 1960. From 1961 to 1964 he was Vice President and Assistant Chief Operator and in 1965 he became the Vice President International. He became Executive Vice President of Operations from 1966 to 1978 and Group Executive Vice President from 1979 to 1983. He was Vice Chairman of the Board from 1984 to 1985 and on the Board of Directors in 1962 and then again from 1965 to 1985. Cullman wanted to thwart government involvement in cigarette business and advocated extreme measures to avoid government interference.
